2013 Annual Meeting and Crabfest

Sunday, June 2 saw the Northern Virginia Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union hold its ever-popular Annual Meeting and Crabfest at Fort Hunt Park in Alexandria, VA.
This annual event featured Claire Gastañaga, Executive Director of the ACLU of Virginia, as its guest speaker. Gastañaga, who completed her first year as Executive Director, discussed civil liberties-based issues, lawsuits, victories, and setbacks in Virginia thus far in 2013.
131 ACLU members and friends also heard tributes to Pat Henkel--for her service, since the 1980s, as a longtime Chapter Board Member, Affiliate Board Member, and Chapter Events Coordinator who is retiring from the Chapter Board--and Steve Pershing--for his service as Chapter Chair during a 16-year period that saw the Chapter broaden the creativity of its programs and events undertaken for its Northern Virginia membership, to include those members living in the outer reaches of the Chapter’s geographical boundaries.
