As we honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s achievements and celebrate his memory, let us feel empowered to continue the fight, his fight, for the civil rights and liberties of all individuals. Whether it’s the disproportionate impact of mass incarceration and the school-to-prison pipeline on communities of color, or the lack of meaningful access to state contracts for minority owned business, or the disproportionate impact of Virginia’s restrictive reproductive health policies and practices on communities of color, Dr. King’s dream is still a long way off in the Commonwealth.”
