In response to a June 2 report that two students were denied the right to wear their hijab at Freedom High School, the ACLU of Virginia sent a letter to Prince William County Public Schools superintendent Stephen L. Watts, reminding him that restricting students’ free exercise of religion is a violation of state and federal law. In the letter, we also asked the superintendent to take action to ensure that every student in Prince William County is protected from illegal discrimination and harassment based on religion.
