Steven Prease, our client in a case challenging the Virginia Department of Corrections' improper withholding of his earned sentence credits, should have been released in July of 2022.
Yet, he waited one whole year in prison until he was reunited with his family on July 13, 2023. The Supreme Court of Virginia ruled in his favor, recognizing that he'd been unlawfully kept in prison.
When we found out that Mr. Prease was going to be released, we rushed to Botetourt County to meet his family and waited alongside them to welcome him home. The photos below seek to capture an emotional homecoming moment for Mr. Prease's family.
We're grateful for the opportunity to share the joy of reunion with the family. We will continue to work to bring more people home to their families and communities.
