Jason Harary joined the ACLU-VA as a Dunn Legal Fellow in September 2020. He is passionate about decarceration and fighting for a world in which everybody, not just the rich and powerful, can have a dignified life. He is most looking forward to working with and learning from the people impacted by the criminal legal system. Outside of work, he enjoys trail running, trivia, and reading/collecting books.
Jason clerked for the Hon. Michael H. Simon on the U.S. District Court for Oregon after graduating from Harvard Law School in 2019. During law school, he represented indigent clients as a student attorney with Harvard’s Criminal Justice Institute and the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender. He also worked with clients facing capital punishment in post-conviction proceedings and conducted research on international abolition of the death penalty. Before law school, Jason received his B.A. in Behavioral Biology from Johns Hopkins University and had a brief and largely unfulfilling stint as a management consultant.
