Expanding Access to Protective Orders and Penalties for Dating Violence

Summary: HB 2422 expands access to protective orders by (1) amending the definition of “family abuse” to include acts of assault, sexual assault, stalking and intentional damage to real or personal property with the intent to intimidate or control. This bill also amends the penalties for violations of protective orders.  Additionally, HB 2422 expands the availability of stalking protective orders to anyone who is a victim of “dating violence.”

Status: Incorporated into HB 2063 (Bell, Robert B.) on Feb. 4.  Conference report to HB 2063 agreed to by House (92-Y, 0-N) and Senate (40-Y, 0-N) on Feb. 26 and signed by the Governor on March 24, 2011.
